After more than seven years, my journey at Google is coming to an end. It has been an incredible chapter of my career, working on improving the CMS ecosystem and AI coding abilities, alongside great engineers and alongside friends. But today I am thrilled to share what\u2019s next: I am joining Vercel to work on the AI SDK.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While saying goodbye to long-time colleagues is never easy, I want to focus on the road ahead. I have been excited about the AI SDK<\/a> for a long time now. It is a project I\u2019ve admired from afar, and I’m grateful to get the opportunity to directly collaborate on its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

From Inspiration to Contribution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AI SDK has been a major influence on my recent work. If you have followed my blog, you know I\u2019ve been deep in the intersection of open source and AI. When I created my AI Services plugin for WordPress<\/a>, I quickly turned to the AI SDK for inspiration. And when that work later led me to starting the PHP AI Client SDK<\/a> as an official part of the WordPress project, the AI SDK became even more of an inspiration. I’ve been increasingly excited about how the TypeScript ecosystem is positioning itself at the forefront of AI assisted engineering, and it’s getting more popular as a result\u2014a few months ago TypeScript surpassed Python as GitHub’s most popular programming language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More generally, my passion lies in building open-source developer tooling and intuitive APIs. Vercel excels at this\u2014they have a reputation for hiring excellent talent and creating tools that developers actually love to use. I’m impressed by how fast they ship and iterate. It is truly humbling to become a part of this team and to immerse myself in a new open-source community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What This Means for My WordPress Contributions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A question I expect to hear is how this transition affects my involvement with WordPress. First of all, I want to be transparent: You may not know this, but I have not been sponsored by Google to contribute to WordPress since April 2025. In other words, all my recent contributions, including my leadership in the WordPress AI Team<\/a>, have been on my own time, in a personal capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I don\u2019t know exactly what the future holds for my “official” roles, I plan to stay involved in a personal capacity to some extent. At the very least, I will continue in an advisory role. I am confident that my deeper involvement with the AI SDK will allow me to bring fresh learnings back to the PHP and WordPress communities, particularly regarding the PHP AI Client SDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking Ahead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moving from the world of CMS performance and infrastructure to a dedicated focus on AI tooling feels like the right evolution. Working at the intersection of open source and AI continues to be my passion, and I can\u2019t wait to see what we build next at Vercel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will start with Vercel at the end of this month. In other big news, I will be working from Austin, where my family and I are currently in the processing of moving to (I’m posting this from an empty apartment).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
